Personal History
Joachim Triebel was born and bred in the Hospitality Industry. After his years as Student (Schools), he embarked on a long and hard apprenticeship that gave him the chance to learn the business from the very bottom. He started as Hotel Management Trainee, i.e. as a Page- and Bellboy, followed by being a Waiter, Apprentice Cook, Bartender, Front Office- and Reception
Clerk, and even as a Steward on Cruise Ships ("Dream Ships").
These first rank-and-file positions helped him to develop a very good understanding of each humble position, realizing that this mundane positions serve as the linchpin of every operation. His quest for academic excellence has likewise been pursued, spending 3 years in a Hotel Trade School in his native Germany, enhancing this further with classes and seminars in such areas as cooking, wine and service, hotel and restaurant management with Cornell University, accounting as well as human resources management with Moevenpick Hotels (in Switzerland).
He also obtained a College degree to back up his colorful hands-on training. His pursuit to increase his knowledge, both theoretical and practical, brought him to the 4 corners of the globe. It is no wonder, therefore, that he can rattle off exotic names and places with ease, having been there to learn, work and gain experiences. In looking back, Joachim considers his experiences in the following hotels (etc.) as the highlights of his over four decades' career:
In 1972, he became the first foreign Hotel Manager of a 250-room hotel in the Cosmopolitan City of Cebu in the Southern Philippines;
In 1975, he developed the first and only international deluxe cruise ship in Asia, the famous M.V. Dona Montserrat. Under his leadership, the luxury liner gained worldwide recognition and enjoyed the patronage of a
discerning clientele;
In 1981, he took over the reign of the 450-room Taipei Regency, Taiwan's leading and only hotel that won a special distinction;
In 1984, he developed the first high-class, deluxe, executive full-service apartment/hotel in Asia, The Ascott in
Singapore.
In 1987, he accepted the offer to manage the first 5-star 450-room international hotel in North-East-China, The Furama Hotel in Dalian. He spearheaded the opening and training of the 800 staff and the various outlets of
the hotel including the first modern laser discotheque in the entire People's Republic of China.
In 1992-1993 was an assignment at the Century Saigon Hotel in Vietnam, the first joint-venture Hotel in this Country after the war, that honed in his various unusual expertise.
From April 1994 till May 1995 he was in charge as Sr. General Manager for the first BERJAYA Property in Sri Lanka,
The Berjaya Mount Royal Beach Resort, Mt. Lavinia, Colombo.
In Autumn of 1998 he opened, together with the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Pres. Fidel V. Ramos (ribbon cutting) The Samal Casino & Resort Complex, at Samal Island, Davao, Southern Philippines.
He directed the pre-opening and official opening of said Resort.
In August of 2008 he returned again to VIETNAM, to manage a 5-Star+ Resort near Phan Thiet.
In January 2009, however, he went again to North-East China, and became the Owners Representative/com Consultant for a large Hospitality company in Shenyang/China.
He has been to over 70 countries worldwide, including all over South-East-Asia.
Joachim obtained a PhD in Counseling Skills and an MBA. He is also a Minister and a Consul A.H.. He is further listed at the prestigious MARQUIS "WHO's WHO IN THE WORLD".
He is an active member of prestigious associations like the Chaine des Rotisseurs, Les Disciples D'Auguste Escoffier, International Hotel Association, Global Hoteliers Club, International SKAL Club, Rotary International and the American Hotel & Restaurant Association and the American Chamber of Commerce.
Joachim believes in Service as full-time commitment, a career, a profession. Combine this with his own brand of passion and panache and one has a winning combination that can only add more honor to the good name of the
Hospitality Industry!
